  1. What is impairment testing?
Impairment testing is a test designed to see if the subjects' cognitive function and motor skills are impaired (negatively affected) to a level that is registering and thus reflecting a need to quarantine the individual from any further duties or operation of machinery.

  2. How do you conduct an impairment test?

There are only two accepted methods used by police around the world.

    1. The first is a method of visual observation of a subjects ability to perform mental and physical tasks assigned by the officer. If this initial test indicates impairment then a further more rigorous physical examination is carried out noting such things as blood pressuse, temperature etc.

    2. The second method is with an instrument called The Eyecheck Impairment Detection System. This utilises pupillometry and refined algorithms to arrive at a presumptive answer for the presence of drugs.

  3. How does the Eyecheck™ Impairment Detection System work?

The Eyecheck™ Impairment Detection System utilises modern pupillometry methods and unique software that records and detects neurological impairment as seen through the eyes.

The test is carried out by holding a binocular shaped instrument to your face and peering into a hole inside the mask, when the test commences after a 30 second dark adaptation period, a low intensity flash of light causes the pupil to constrict - the Eyecheck™ Impairment Detection System records that process in minute detail and provides the operator with a pass/fail response.

  4. Why is Eyecheck™ useful in a workplace environment?

Eyecheck™ is useful in a variety of ways; Its primary function is as a drug impairment screening device, it's secondary function is as a fatigue detection tool. It is a fantastic cost saver and workers like to use it in preference to urine testing.

  5. Who can be tested on Eyecheck™?

There are two levels of software, Adult & Juvenile. So from the age of 13 - 55 is generally the age limit it is applied to.

You can test both male and female, unlike urine testing it is non-gender specific.

  6. Who cannot be tested with Eyecheck™?

There are a few people with conditions that either the condition they have or the drugs that they are taking to treat it may make them unsuitable candidates, but generally speaking people in these groups fall outside of the 'normal' bell-curve of the population at large.

The obvious ones are those that affect the entry of light to the eye:- glaucoma. cataracts, pupillary damage.  Macular degeneration in over 55's can give inconsistent results.

Then there are a few others such as: severe head injuries, pregnancy can play havoc with the instruments readings, diabetes can return a positive, some psychotic drugs.

  7. The Eyecheck™ appears expensive. Can you tell me why?

Appearances can be deceptive, at first glance and without considering all the factors that come into play such as time and labour costs, program management costs, consumable costs - the Eyecheck™ can 'appear' expensive. Like most things it is relative, and none more so than in this case once all the hidden costs have been taken into consideration, then it is actually very cost effective.

Included in the cost is the training of two operators that undertake an intensive program of training and have to pass a profiency test after a period of practice testing. The technology along with the quality service we provide and the extras we have built into this package make it a complete testing system and is what you pay for.

We have created a handy 'Ready Reckoner' to assist you to calculate the real costs of your current or proposed drug testing program - You will be amazed at the potential for savings and with budgets always being stretched this is a cost effective tool. Ask us to send it to you and answer any other questions you may have as well.

  8. Can I have someone come in and test my staff for me without having to purchase an instrument?

Yes, if you are within range of one of our growing stable of contractors that offer the Eyecheck™ as an alternative testing system. If you have a contractor that you prefer to use, then perhaps we can work something out with them to enable you to have what you want.

One company we deal with bought the instrument and a 3rd party contractor whom we trained does teh testing for them - many things are possible.

  9. Can I lease the instrument?
Yes we have organised a leasing facility that equates to around $190AUD per week for the entire package spread over 3 years. This is a great way to get this technology into your business without affecting the cap-ex budgets.

  10. Are these instruments available in other countries?

Yes, we cover a range of territories under our distribution agreement and have arrangements with other distributors around the world to provide the best local support.

  11. Can I 'Try before I buy'?

Yes - absolutely, this is part of our service.

Providing there is an instrument available you may trial the instrument with you own workforce in your own workplace for a period of two months. This is a hire arrangement where you are required to provide adequate insurance and pay a weekly hire fee. Training of your own operators is an additional cost but all trial costs are deducted from the purchase price should you decide to buy.
